Usage
Used as an antimicrobial preservative in pharmaceutical excipients. Among the parabens homologs, it exhibits strong bacteriostatic activity and good oil solubility, with excellent inhibitory effects against molds, yeasts and certain bacteria. Widely applied in topical ointments, creams, gels and suppositories, especially semi-solid preparations with oily bases. Often combined with other parabens (such as methylparaben and propylparaben) to balance water solubility and antimicrobial efficacy, broadening the antimicrobial spectrum.
